When separate base sections, usually two, are mounted onto the top of an action with small screws, there is a high probability that they will not be perfectly aligned along the rifle bore axis due to errors in the drilling and tapping of the threads in the top of the action, or the clearances in the screw holes in the bases. It is common practice to use a straight edge to align the two base pieces when they are secured by whatever means to the action, but even a straight edge may not get them aligned perfectly, leading to the scope rings being out of alignment when clamped onto the bases.
This problem is now solved with the alignment tool we have designed and manufactured. It is a precision made tool with all the outer surfaces perfectly aligned with the internal dovetail or Pic rail clamping faces. It is used to clamp onto both bases and hold them true to each other while the screws are secured into the action. The alignment tool has multiple slotted holes in the top face to allow access to the screws while still being clamped to the mounting bases. The tool can also be used with a long straight edge to check the alignment of the tapped action holes to the bore. It can also be used to level the rifle prior to aligning the scope reticle.
