Our range of portable presses have been designed with many common features throughout and features not usually seen on presses of this type. We believe your portable range press has to be just as accurate as your main reloading press and so have incorporated the unique features seen on our heavy duty swaging/reloading press.
Our initial portable press design is a twin die position press with the standard .875”x14tpi threads in the top of the press frame in two places.
- The length of travel of the ram(s) is set by adjusting a micrometer stopper located in the top frame of the press. This allows precision adjustments of .001” or even .0005” in the overall length setting for case sizing and bullet seating. This design feature eliminates the effect that wear and manufacturing tolerances have in determining stroke length, particularly when using a press in the “cam over” mode. The stroke length is identical for all practical purposes on every stroke of the rams.
Our presses do not travel into the “cam over” position.
- The press has a common connecting plinth connecting the two precision ground high tensile ram shafts that are raised and lowered by handle movement. This ties the ram shafts together at the top end of their stroke and the press frame maintains their position accurately at the lower end of the frame. This design feature stiffens the press and supports the ram shafts at the top end of their stroke when they are performing the hardest part of their work.
- All sliding and rotating actions in the press are fitted with Teflon coated bronze, steel backed bushings, and the press is manufactured to very exacting tolerances to produce a very high degree of accuracy both in the straight line and in the length travelled by the ram plate. Replacement bushings are readily available at any bearing supplier worldwide.
- Standard dies can be used to achieve a degree of bullet resizing and seating accuracy that exceeds even micrometer or shim adjustment precision dies. This has been proven in the extensive trials we and our test panel reloaders have done with the press during its development stage. No shims or other external die adjustment devices are required to achieve extremely consistent resizing shoulder to base length and ogive to base length of reloaded rounds.
- Standard .875″ x 14tpi threads are machined into steel inserts that are in turn threaded and locked into the main aluminium press frame. There is no need to use micrometer seating dies or any shim adjustment arrangement as the micrometer stop built into the press provides for very accurate and repeatable seating and resizing depths. The steel thread inserts for the dies provide a much better thread fit and stop thread wear in the aluminium frame.
- Cerakote paint finish.
- The operating handle can be swapped from right hand to left hand operation easily.
- Spent primers are caught in a removable plastic catch tray.
- The rear mounting bracket is easily removed for storage and travel.
- Available in two different lengths. The SL model (Standard Length) press is the shorter stroke unit that will suit all calibers up to approximately 76mm (3″) overall loaded length. This includes all the 6mm and some 6.5mm cartridges.
- The XL model (Extended Length) press has an open area of approximately 102mm (4″) and suits all loaded cartridge overall lengths up to 4″ or 102mm. This includes most of the .30 Cal sizes. This press is under development and will be available soon.
