The standard length version of the bullet swaging press has an open area height of 123mm and stroke of 71mm. It can swage practically any bullet up to 50 caliber and be used for reloading of all calibres with overall loaded length of 85mm (3.34″) or less. Due to the robust and high precision build of the press it also makes for a highly accurate reloading press.
These presses are aluminium framed and use precision ground 4140 H/T bar in the guide bars and the main ram shaft. All shafts run in Teflon coated bronze faced steel shell bushings.
The micrometer depth stop unit has a hardened 4140 steel stop insert in the aluminium frame and the depth stop centre thread is also hardened 4140 steel. The positioning of the micrometer adjuster and its stopper can be reversed in the press so it can be located either in the upper press frame or on the moving platen. This is convenient when swaging bullets so that swaged bullets do not hit the micrometer as they are ejected from the die.
For reloading it may be more convenient located in the upper frame.
The advanced press handle action design results in high swaging forces without excessive arm strength required by the operator, and most importantly of all, extremely high accuracy, and repeatability in bullet length dimensions and concentricity or reloaded cartridges.
Die travel is adjustable in 0.0005″ (0.0127mm) steps with a micrometer style adjuster. The press design eliminates the cam-over action seen in almost all other presses and this results in superior swaging or reloading accuracy.
The press is also available with a 25degree mounting plate so that it lays back for bullet swaging, allowing the ejected projectiles to drop free into a catch tray.
This swaging press does not require the die to be left loose so it can “self-align” and “self center” as the bullet is swaged as the press is built to such a high level of accuracy that the swaging plunger is perfectly aligned with the die at all times and the result is bullets of exceptional accuracy and consistency. Relying on “self-alignment” is a way of masking manufacturing inconsistencies and excessive machining tolerances, the two factors that produce inconsistency in swaged bullet length and concentricity and reloaded cartridge straightness and bullet seated depth.
The press is supplied standard with two bushings giving 7/8″ UNF (.875″ x 14 TPI), 1 1/4″ UNF (1.250″ x 12 TPI) and 1 1/2″ UNF (1.5″ x 12 TPI) threads for the different dies available.
When using the press for reloading, the die is set and locked up in the normal manner and the cartridge OAL is adjusted by the use of the micrometer length adjuster built into the press. This method of operation allows the use of standard bullet seating dies and results in greater loaded cartridge OAL accuracy than is possible with any other die or press method, eliminating the need for any shims or other micro adjusters on the die mount.
Included accessories.
- 1 x Reducing bush, 1.500” x 12tpi to 1.250” x 12tpi.
- 1 x Reducing bush 1.500” x 12tpi to .875” x 14tpi.
Optional accessories.
- Reloading Kit.
The standard length swaging/reloading press has a reloading kit available as an optional extra that includes a shell holder for most standard case holders such as RCBS, Lyman, Hornady, etc. and a spent primer catch tray and bracket that is attached with the screws supplied to the front of the moving platen.
- Angled Mounting Bracket.
An optimal 25-degree back sloping mounting plate which allows the press to lay back for bullet swaging. This option allows the ejected projectiles to drop free into a catch tray. The standard mount is a 90-degree plate that holds the press vertical to the mounting surface.
